Warnings When Using Macrobid

• Do not use Macrobid if you are allergic to nitrofurantoin or any other ingredients in the tablet.
• Before using this medication, inform your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease, or a history of anemia.
• Macrobid may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
• Use with caution in elderly patients, as they may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially lung problems.
• Pregnant women, particularly those at term, should not use Macrobid unless absolutely necessary, as it may cause harm to the fetus.
• Breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using this medication, as it may pass into breast milk and affect the nursing infant.
• Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature away from light and moisture.

How to Take Macrobid

• Take Macrobid 100mg tablets orally, usually twice daily (every 12 hours), with food to enhance absorption and reduce the risk of stomach upset.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet as it may release the drug too quickly and increase side effects.
• Continue taking the medication for the full prescribed length of time, even if symptoms improve after a few days. Stopping the medication early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Macrobid Ingredients

Each Macrobid 100mg tablet contains:

• Nitrofurantoin 100mg (macrocrystals and monohydrate) as the active ingredient.

Other inactive ingredients include: carbomer 934P, corn starch, D&C Yellow No. 10, edible black ink, FD&C Blue No. 1, gelatin, lactose, magnesium stearate, povidone, shellac, sucrose, talc, and titanium dioxide.

Side Effects of Macrobid

Common side effects may include:

• Nausea or vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Dizziness or drowsiness

These side effects are usually mild and temporary. If they persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider. Severe side effects are rare but can include liver problems, lung issues, or severe allergic reactions. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience symptoms such as persistent cough, chest pain, shortness of breath, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe rash.
